  • Best Cell Phone Holiday Deals

Chances are you are looking for the best cell phone deals you can find.

With so many providers available it can be a bit confusing. Whether you are looking just for yourself or for a family plan, it’s important to find the best cell phone deals. So where do you start looking you say? First of all, check out what’s available in your area and what type of coverage you are looking for. Do you travel a lot? Or do you have friends and family with a certain provider, or maybe you are using your cell phone primarily for emergencies? These are all things you want to consider in your search for the best cell phone deals.

All the major wireless service providers, such as Verizon, Cingular, Cricket, T-Mobile, US Cellular, and Alltel all have various plans to meet the needs of their customers, and of course, they all say they have the best cell phone deals you’re going to find and the best service.

If this were only true! This is where being an informed, knowledgeable consumer comes in.

Do your research before you commit, and make sure that what you get is what you want. You may not want a two year contract or tons of minutes. You may be purchasing a phone for a teenager, which is why you may want to search for the best prepaid cell phone deal. By taking this approach your child doesn’t end up in hot water going over allotted minutes, and you don’t get stuck paying a huge unexpected cell phone bill.

Check out various cell phone providers online to see what is available in your area, and what types of coverage they offer.

Certain wireless providers run promotions from time to time as well that may get you a decent phone for less or bonus minutes. Also be sure to compare plans and phones, and if you have to sign a contract to get that best cell phone deal, make sure you are not paying for features or minutes you don’t want or need. If you travel a lot to a certain part of the country you may want to make sure that you will have signal to and from your trip and while you’re there. Kind of defeats the purpose of finding the best cell phone deal if it doesn’t work where you are!

Good luck in your quest for the best cell phone deals!

    Phone Chargers

If you own a mobile phone, you need to keep your battery charged and ready to go.

Batteries vary in staying power, and how often you have to recharge will depend on how often you use your phone. For some people, simply having phone chargers that plug into an outlet at home are enough, and they only need to recharge overnight. For the rest of us, we need a bit more. This is when phone chargers that take alternate power sources are a must.

One popular alternative to home phone chargers are ones that plug into your lighter in your car or truck.

These work great for people who must travel a lot, or have long commutes to and from work. In many cases, you can plug your newly charged mobile into one of these car phone chargers and use that power source for calls while in your car. This saves on your battery power.

Chances are there is more than one mobile phone in your home.

If you have the same brand, you may be able to share chargers, though this is not always convenient. This is great when one gets broken or lost, and you haven’t been able to replace it yet. My husband and I both have LG phone from Verizon, and even though they are different models, our phone chargers are interchangeable. Our hands free sets are also compatible.

If you didn’t get the phone chargers you need when you bought your phone, you can buy them separately or as a package with other items.

The cost will depend on what brand you want. Some mobile phone companies have their own accessories, or you can find some made by other companies that may fit your phone. You should ask a sales representative to help you choose what will work best with your phone. Not all phone chargers are created equal, and you want to find the most durable one you can find so you don’t have to keep replacing them.

Look for packages if you need more than one thing. You may be able to find a set that has phone chargers, hands free, and other goodies all in one package for a great price. As with anything you buy online, ask about return policy if something doesn’t work right, and make sure everything is in good working condition the moment it arrives.

You can also find phone chargers online, but remember to find out if it is compatible with your mobile phone before buying.

editor's note: I got my portable charger this summer and its very, very convenient.

What to get Your Family and Friends for the Holidays?

It's that time of year again, and with holiday shoppers swarming malls and stores to find the next hot gift, how do you decide what to get your family and friends for the holidays?

There's always the standard sweater for Mom and tie and money clip combo for Dad, but what can you get them that will actually mean something? Embroidered golf club head covers are great and everything, but they're not too likely to mean a lot to whoever gets them unless the two of you have shared some sort of a bond over a good golf game.

There are two great ways to find gifts that your family and friends will love. The first is to think of some sort of bond the two of you have shared, either in a shared experience, a shared hobby, or a shared memory. Maybe you and your mom had a wonderful conversation some evening in the garden. Or perhaps you and all of your best friends had a great weekend together on Cape Cod.

Whatever the event, look for gifts which are somehow reminiscent of the event. Maybe a garden sculpture for Mom or new beach sandals for your friends. Then every time they use or see their gifts they'll be reminded of the good times you've shared.

Another sure fire gift giving trick is to do a little bit of work to find out what people really enjoy. No, this doesn't mean buying another divot tool for your golfing uncle, it means finding out what nuanced little interests your family and friends have. The golfing uncle may really like Greg Norman, or your gardening aunt may love begonias.

If you can trace down these sorts of preferences, then you can start to find gifts which really fit the people you're buying them for. It also helps if you can track down an item which is relatively difficult to find, be it imported teas from India or a limited-edition book. Your gift recipients will appreciate the time you put into finding the item, especially if they've looked for it themselves.

Of course, you could always just find out what your friends and family want for Christmas and get it for them. This is especially easy with children who like to make Christmas lists, though it can be a bit tougher for adults. We all have relatives who manage to buy everything they want and need, making it difficult to come up with gift ideas.

But do they have cell phone insurance?

You know, a portable cell phone recharger. It will save time and perhaps money should their cell phones go dead while in the middle of a chat or during a real emergency. Aside from asking them straight out, often spouses or romantic partners can shed some light on what to buy, or at least where to look.

Ultimately it's the thought put into gift-giving that determines the success of any given gift.

My Travel Adapter in My Carry-on Bag

One of the best parts about my job is that I get to do a lot of international traveling.

Some people wouldn't like being away from home for so many weeks out of the year, but since I don't have a family, it doesn't bother me in the least. In fact, I view this kind of traveling as a major perk that allows me to enjoy a lot of exotic cities in style. Of course, I still have to get some actual work done while I'm away, which means that I always have to have my laptop and a travel adapter with me.

I'll admit that the first time I attended a meeting on a different continent, I had no idea that I would need a travel adapter for my electronic items. So you can imagine my embarrassment when my laptop battery went out right in the middle of an important meeting and I couldn't get the power supply cord to work in the European outlet. Fortunately, my hosts were used to encountering this kind of problem with the overseas clients they entertained, so they had a spare travel adapter on hand for me to use. After that incident, I figured I had better buy travel adapters and a portable cell phone charger for every continent that I was likely to visit on business.

Of course, I had no way of knowing off hand which countries would require the use of a travel adapter and which ones wouldn't. That meant I would have to get online to do some research into the subject. I made a list of all the countries that members of my firm routinely visit, then checked out their electricity standards. After about an hour, I had a very good idea about travel adapter requirements around the globe. My next step was to purchase some travel adapters that would fit my needs in each of these countries.

As I started shopping around for travel adapters, I realized that instead of purchasing a separate product for each different country, I could instead buy a universal travel adapter that would work in all countries. A universal travel adapter was more expensive than a standard country-specific one, but it would be a lot more convenient for me in the long run. For example, I wouldn't have to worry about bringing the wrong travel adapter on a particular trip or anything like that. After browsing through a few websites for the best prices, I found a fantastic deal on a universal travel adapter and bought it on the spot. Here's my recommended site for a high quality portable cell phone charger.

Now I know that I can use my laptop and other electronic equipment no matter where my next business trip sends me. I keep my travel adapter in my carry-on bag and never board a plane without it. It's a good feeling to know that I'll be as productive in Europe, Asia, or South America as I am right here at home!
